  • Model Size: GPT-4 has been trained with 100 trillion parameters, significantly more than the 175 billion parameters used for training GPT-3.
  • Improved Performance: GPT-4 can handle more nuanced prompts and process up to 32,000 tokens compared to GPT-3’s 4,096 tokens.

When I reached out to content marketers, writers, and entrepreneurs, it became evident that Jasper and ChatGPT Plus are the preferred options.

In fact, nearly 90% of them are using one of these two GPT-4 tools to create content in one form or another. No wonder both Jasper and ChatGPT Plus are emerging as the top AI writing software tools in 2023.

But they’re not the only players in the industry. Many other AI chatbots and platforms are now scrambling to add GPT-4 to improve the efficiency and utility of their tools.

If you don’t like this impersonal approach, Jasper also has the AI Chat feature. It’s akin to having a conversation with a welcoming chatbot that’s always willing to respond to your questions and generate content based on your requests.

ChatGPT Plus is just an extension of a subscription plan that gives you exclusive access to ChatGPT, an advanced AI language model developed by OpenAI.

Much like Julius Caesar’s triumphant declaration ‘Veni, Vidi, Vici’ after his victories, ChatGPT prevailed upon the digital marketing scene and won over everyone.

And why not? For the very first time, you have access to an AI language model capable of providing human-like responses to every question or inquiry you pose.

However, note that the GPT-4 version is exclusively available with ChatGPT Plus and is not included in the free version. The free version of ChatGPT still functions on GPT-3.5, which is not as accurate as the GPT-4 version.

ChatGPT Plus can help you generate coherent and contextually relevant text, making it suitable for tasks like:

  • Learning and Research: Students and researchers can use it to quickly access information, explain complex topics, and generate citations.
  • Coding Assistance: It can provide code snippets, explanations, and debugging help for programmers and developers.

Sarah Jameson, Marketing Director of Green Building Elements, primarily uses ChatGPT Plus to create quick drafts and proofread blog posts for my company.

Sarah says, “We used to use Grammarly for this task, but we found that its suggestions were sometimes off-putting. ChatGPT Plus is more robust and offers a wider range of features, so we switched to it.”

While she finds it useful, Sarah also has some complaints – one of her main criticisms of ChatGPT Plus is that it sometimes tries too hard to sound intelligent by using complex words and phrases.

Like ChatGPT Plus, Bing AI is an artificial intelligence-powered chatbot developed by Microsoft that can help you with multiple tasks. For example, you can use it to generate creative content, travel itineraries, find list sources and links, write code, and even create AI-generated images.

Bing AI also offers three conversation styles: Balanced, Creative, and Precise.

You can ask questions by typing directly into the prompt box, using the microphone, or using an image.

Bing AI has some limitations as well. For example, Bing Chat has limits of 30 chats per session or 300 daily.

But here’s the cool part: Bing AI has significant advantages over GPT -4-based ChatGPT Plus – it’s totally free! And the cherry on top is that it’s seamlessly integrated with Microsoft Edge, which also means you’re likely to get more accurate results for your queries.

5. Duolingo Max

Duolingo is synonymous with language, much like a trusted compass is synonymous with navigation.

It’s one of the most popular language platforms known for its user-friendly approach to mastering new languages. What makes it special is how it’s accessible to learners of all levels and provides language skills in an engaging manner. For example, they sprinkle in exercises, quizzes, and gamification elements to make the journey super engaging.

Ultimately, the quality of your results hinges on the prompt you provide. The more precise and relevant your prompt, the more accurate your response will be. What takes it a step further is that it will not only produce factual responses but also include the source information. This means you can always cross-check the source for a more detailed insight.

For example, when I asked it to help plan a trip to Tokyo, it didn’t just give me a simple answer – it provided a detailed itinerary with sources for flights, accommodations, sightseeing, and more, ensuring a well-rounded travel plan.

As you near the end of your response to a query, you can now either pose follow-up questions or explore answers to a cluster of related questions conveniently provided by Perplexity AI.

Pricing:

Perplexity AI also comes in two versions.

First, it has a basic tool that’s free to use and utilizes OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 combined with a large language model, using Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning.

There’s another smarter, more intelligent version called Copilot powered by GPT-4, but it requires a login and charges $20/month or $200 when billed per year.

Whether crafting content or seeking answers to the most profound questions, GPT-4-powered AI tools work as your trusty assistant.

As the AI chatbot landscape continues to evolve, one can only imagine the limitless possibilities yet to be discovered.

Since GPT-4 is relatively new, you’ll likely find more options for GPT-3 tools. But there are still more options than you’ll probably need. And the best part? The availability of GPT-4-powered language models is steadily increasing, with numerous tools incorporating it to enhance functionality.

1. Surfer SEO

Best for: content optimization and audits, keyword research, internal link optimization, AI writing.

Surfer SEO is one of the coolest AI SEO tools out there.

Point of proof: I use it to help me write almost every blog post I publish on this site.

Surfer SEO does has several AI based SEO tools.

Of their key features, the best is optimizing content for search engine results pages (SERPs).

It does this by reverse engineering on-page SEO signals such as word count, readability, and keywords, and then it gives you suggestions and guidelines on relevant keywords to include, number of headlines, and number of images.

Here’s an example I whipped up for this blog post:

Recently, Surfer has launched a suite of new products supported by artificial intelligence and machine learning, including an AI blogging tool that can assist you in writing copy optimized for search.

It’s also great for content planning, with a pretty nifty content outline feature:

Finally, they identify relevant internal links and offer content update suggestions on a weekly basis. Just upload your domain (and optionally, your Google Search Console account), and it gives you suggestions to keep your web pages maintained.

Finally, they also have keyword research and keyword planning features. You just pop in a seed keyword or phrase and it generates a bunch of additional keyword ideas and clusters them using natural language processing.

One of the most powerful AI SEO tools for website owners and SEO professionals.

SEO optimization (I’m aware of the double “optimization”) at its finest.

Price: $79.99 for essential plan when billed annually. They have other add-ons like SERP analyzer, API, and white label solutions as well.

2. Jasper

Best for: AI blogging and copywriting, especially for teams.

Jasper is a comprehensive generative AI platform with features for AI image generation, AI copywriting, and more.

I started using Jasper AI in the early days, back when they were just a few team members and their brand was Conversion AI.

They’ve come a long way since then, raising money at over $1B valuation and building a comprehensive suite of products that not only serves SEO use cases, but whole team AI functionalities.

Recently, they launched Brand Voice and product memories, which allow you to analyze and store data about your unique brand style as well as products and services you offer.

This creates a more custom output than many AI writing tools.

Complement that with their abundant SEO templates, including my favorite one (“One Shot Blog Post”), and you’ve got an absolute force multiplier on productivity.

They also have an AI chatbot (that includes up-to-date Google search results, unlike ChatGPT), and they have a Chrome extension so you can beat writer’s block anywhere you go.

Great product and great team. They have, however, shifted to more of an enterprise focus, so I’ve found myself using the tool less and less (and replacing it with Claude and ChatGPT).

Price: Starts at $39/mo for the creator account, which includes 1 brand voice and unlimited outputs.

3. GrowthBar

Best for: AI writing for SEO content creation

GrowthBar is an AI writing tool specifically built for SEOs.

Built by the knowledgeable team at GrowthMarketingPro, it was custom built for organic search use cases, and it includes a ton of features like keyword research, rank tracking, backlink analysis, and SERP analysis, in addition to a powerful AI writing assistant.

They also include the ability to analyze and define a brand voice and use that to generate custom and authentic outputs.

My favorite feature is their on-page SEO audit tool.

Like Surfer, this reverse engineers on-page ranking signals and gives you suggestions to improve every piece of your content, from image count to keywords and even internal and external link suggestions.

This AI SEO tool was custom built for SEOs. They continue to build features and innovate on the core product. Highly recommend checking this one out.

Price: $29 /Month when paid annually for 25 AI articles a month plus SEO features.

4. Scalenut

Best for: search engine optimization and keyword research at scale

Scalenut is a new AI SEO tool I’ve begun using that has some unique features, particularly for making perfectly optimized content.

First, their keyword clustering feature is world class, and it goes above and beyond big name platforms like Semrush and Ahrefs. It features semantic clustering as well as SERP clustering (based on similarities on pages in search engines) to drive true topic authority, which matters more and more in organic search.

The platform is comprehensive, with content research and planning features, content optimization and update features, and AI powered tools for content writing and editing.

Scalenut is also a great tool for building content briefs at scale.

In my opinion, there will always be a need to build out portions of a content brief manually (else, where’s your competitive advantage?). However, when I’m building out a massive amount of briefs with similar components and content strategy foundations, an AI SEO tool is super useful for speeding up that process.

Solid overall product for SEOs looking to boost search engine rankings and speed up their process.

5. Frase

Best for: SEO strategy, content planning, and content briefs

Frase has grown on me – the darkhorse of the AI SEO tool space.

To start, it’s one of my favorite tools for content strategy, planning, and content research.

It has multiple SEO tools, including content analytics from Google Search Console to identify content weaknesses and opportunities in your organic traffic.

It also includes an outline builder (I’ll cover that in a second), topic planner (which is essentially keyword research to find long tail keywords), and a Wikipedia concept map. They also have an article rewriter, though I don’t find that tool very useful.

One of my favorite tools is the GSC content analytics, because I love content analytics and optimization. Nothing super advanced or technical here; it just gives you a list of SEO and traffic insights based on your rankings and impressions:

This is a really nice tool to, in a flash, prioritize pages to fix and update.

As for their content brief tool, it’s world class.

It analyzes the search engine results page for your keyword, does competitor analysis, and gives you headline, subheadline, and content suggestions to make sure your blog post is comprehensive:

I never look at this as a complete research process, but again, it gives you valuable insights in a fraction of the time and gets you to the content creation phase much faster. It’s a great tool to research niche topics and get a quick understanding of the landscape.

They also have an SEO content editor, an AI SEO software much like Clearscope or Surfer that helps you optimize on page SEO towards a score.

Frase also includes an AI copywriting tool to write SEO content, but so does everyone else nowadays 🙂

Price: Starts at just $14.99/mo for their solo plan.

6. Writesonic

Best for: all purpose AI written content

Writesonic is a grab bag of incredibly useful AI tools, including AI powered SEO tools.

Much like Jasper, they’ve built a comprehensive platform for AI text generation, but have also built features for AI image generation and AI chatbots. They even allow you to create your own AI chatbots trained on your own data.

While they don’t have tools for typical SEO tasks like link building, estimating search volume or keyword difficulty, analyzing internal linking, and conducting competitor analysis, it’s excellent for producing AI generated content.

They’ve got templates for everything:

A few of my top use cases for Writesonic include:

  • Generating content ideas
  • Producing meta descriptions
  • Ideating page titles
  • Creating content briefs and content outlines
  • Repurposing content for social media marketing

The big thing about Writesonic is it’s much easier to use than other platforms. They literally have a guided template and workflow for pretty much any AI generated content use case you can think of.

I will say, however, that I’ve pretty much stopped using Writesonic entirely in favor of ChatGPT and Claude recently.

Price: Depends on scope and GPT 3 vs GPT 4 (which is only available on the business plan). However, they start with a freemium plan

7. Keywordinsights.ai

Best for: keyword research and content planning

Keyword Insights is the SEO tool I always wanted to build.

When I worked at HubSpot, I used to built little internal data tools like the Surround Sound SEO tool and a predictive content update tool.

I had ideas on my roadmap to predict search intent and conversion propensity as well as basic clustering algorithms.

Lucky for me, Keyword Insights took the roadmap from my brain and built it into an affordable product.

Now, it’s a core part of my SEO strategy and content research process.

To start, their keyword research tool is a great complement to something like Ahrefs or Semrush. I can seed it with a single short tail keyword and it will spin up thousands of related variants, and then optionally, cluster them by theme.

Recently, they’ve also added the ability to create content briefs and even write content using generative AI.

Essentially, it’s an entire content planning and writing workshop for SEO-focused marketers.

Search engines love topical authority, and Keyword Insights makes your SEO efforts much easier.

You can pay via subscription or by credits, making it one of the most flexible AI SEO tools out there.

Price: Pay by credit or subscribe for $58 /per month

8. ChatGPT

Best for: everything

I probably don’t have to tell you about ChatGPT.

It’s the ubiquitous AI chatbot released by OpenAI that brought generative AI to the mainstream, even resulting in a South Park episode spoofing the tool.

With obvious limitations, it does anything you want it to do:

OpenAI built the natural language processing technology that many of the other tools on this list use for their generative AI outputs (GPT-3, and in some cases, GPT-4)

They also launched an Enterprise plan recently with robust security features and the promise of eventually being able to train it on custom data sets.

They continually launch new stuff, like custom instructions.

It’s hard to even summarize ChatGPT, but I probably don’t need to since you’re likely already using it.

I’ve probably built dozens of distinct custom GPTs at this point to help me with everything from writing my weekly newsletter to writing LinkedIn posts, outlining articles, clustering topics, building briefs, building strategy docs, and outlining case studies.

Google itself has, of course, developed a myriad of AI SEO tools. They’re updating and releasing more and more everyday, but the main concern for SEOs should be Google SGE, or generative search.

AI Overviews, yo. This is, in some ways, a progression of existing quick answers and feature snippets. But it’s also much different, in that it summarizes from a variety of sources instead of pulling verbatim from one source.

This is changing and will continue to change search and consumer behavior.

Google Gemini (formerly known as Bard) is another AI SEO tool important to consider. It’s basically a ChatGPT alternative, an AI chatbot that gives answers to conversational queries:

Google is so steeped in AI at this point that pretty much all of their tools incorporate some elements of AI, including GA4. For example, their anomaly detection in the homepage gives you quick insights on traffic insights:

10. Midjourney

Best for: image generation

Midjourney is my favorite AI art generator by a long shot.

It’s actually a Discord app, making it a little bit of a learning curve for non-nerds.

But the interface is actually wildly simple. Just prompt /imagine and then describe the image you want.

For example, here’s a bunch of muscular chihuahuas who do jiu jitsu in a pencil sketch:

As for the SEO tie-in, well, images are important for readability. Image optimization is important. You don’t want a bunch of lame stock photos.

And you always need a blog header image, yeah? Pop over to my blog category page and realize that almost all my header images are AI generated now:

Best for: podcast repurposing and distribution, including SEO blog posts

Finally, we end on my favorite AI podcasting tool, Castmagic.

Podcasting is a popular component of a modern B2B marketing strategy. Often, it doesn’t fit in well or at all to existing SEO campaigns.

That’s a shame.

I use Castmagic at my agency to make the two efforts synergistic.

Generative AI has taken the world by storm.

Most of us, if not proselytizing AI writing tools in clickbait LinkedIn threads, are at least using the tools to some extent.

The landscape is now quite rich with great GPT-3 tools. I’ll cover my favorites here.

What is GPT-3 and How Does It Work?

GPT-3 is an AI technology built by OpenAI, the makers of ChatGPT.

GPT stands for “Generative Pre-trained Transformer” and the three means it is the third version or generation of this technology. OpenAI has since launched GPT-4 and will likely continue to update and improve the model, but many tools, including the free version of ChatGPT, are still using GPT-3.

GPT-3 is a large language model (LLM) trained on a massive amount of content that generates realistic human text. Basically, it has been trained on content and is able to detect patterns and predict the most logical words and phrases based on the inputs you give it.

In non-nerd speak, it helps you write content automatically just by giving it a prompt (or instructions).

Many AI tools are now using a mixture of models, some of which have been custom built, but for the most part, GPT is the underlying technology on most of the AI text generators you can use today.

They also recently launched a Chrome extension that allows you to use Jasper everywhere, as well as Jasper Chat (which is a ChatGPT-style conversational interface that also allows access to real-time Google search results).

The team has also recently launched “brand voice,” which lets Jasper train on your own content and figure out how to write in your own voice. Game changer.

2. Copy AI

Copy AI is another of the best GPT-3 tools out there and one of the first I ever tried.

It’s incredibly easy to use, with dozens of templates that guide you through the process of creating great content.

They also recently launched a chat interface that is one of the best in the business. Their newsletter featured daily prompt suggestions to inspire your creativity.

Copy AI has been around for a while, and the product has gotten increasingly better. I still look at this one as one of the easiest GPT-3 tools to use.

On the downsides, it’s a bit less customizable and extensive when compared to Jasper and Writesonic. Jasper also includes a native integration with Surfer SEO, which helps on the SEO side of things.

But what I like about Copy AI is it’s affordable, simple to use, and has great templates for bloggers, advertisers, and sales professionals.

3. Frase

Frase.io is an AI-powered content optimization tool that helps businesses create SEO-friendly content quickly and easily.

Using machine learning, Frase gives you insights into content gaps and opportunities for optimization, as well as automated AI writing assistance to help with speedy content generation.

It also offers a range of features such as keyword research, topic analysis, and article optimization to ensure your content is optimized for search engine rankings. Plus, it’s wonderful for creating a blog post content outline.

The platform is easy to use and has a great user friendly interface, making it ideal for businesses of all sizes.

Personally, I use Frase primarily for research and to create engaging content outlines.

GrowthBar is the highest-rated AI writing tool on G2 and can be used as a standalone web app or integrated with Google for keyword ideas. It’s great for creating blog posts 10x faster than traditional methods and helps optimize SEO content quickly and easily.

Writesonic is a super popular AI tool built using GPT 3.

This company came out of Y Combinator and quickly built a differentiated product.

It support multiple languages as well,

They also offer an AI image generator as well as a chatbot. In fact, they allow you to create your own custom chatbots for handling things like support documentation and customer inquiries.

I like this AI tool for generating new ideas and for creating content with specific keywords in mind.

They recently launched a brand voice tool as well as tools for creating content that is factually accurate.

7. Hypotenuse AI

Hypotenuse AI is an AI-powered platform that helps streamline the content creation process.

It can generate blog articles, product descriptions, and advertising captions in seconds using artificial intelligence. It also has an AI image generator which uses DALL-E 2 to create stunning visuals with a few different settings to play with.

Hypotenuse AI is great for businesses looking to quickly create unique copywriting and visuals for their marketing campaigns.

However, it may not be suitable for more complex tasks such as writing long-form articles or creating detailed images. Overall, Hypotenuse AI is an excellent tool for businesses looking to save time and money on content creation.

Obviously I gotta mention ChatGPT here.

It’s also among the most popular AI tools of all time. You can’t scroll through LinkedIn without seeing something about ChatGPT prompts.

Anyway, you can do SO much with this tool – write blog posts, create landing pages (with code), tweak ad copy, write poetry. Anything.

Basically, it provides AI assistance for everything you want to do. I’ve even used it in conjunction with AI website builder tools to help design landing pages.

The premise is simple. You’ve conducted a podcast interview. It’s recorded and edited, but you want to get more value from the simple recording.

In today’s social media environment, podcasts are absolutely perfect for content repurposing. You can turn a single episode into dozens of video or audio clips to share on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etc.

You can also turn your podcast into a blog post as well as cut out quotes from the episode to sprinkle into your content.

The title matters, too. Castmagic gives you (great) title suggestions.

To summarize, with a simple upload, Castmagic gives you:

  • Show notes and links to include
  • Podcast summary

It automates a huge part of the work that we used to do manually.

The interface is super easy to use. Just upload your audio recording file, and Podsqueeze takes care of the rest. You can also upload a video file or link to your RSS feed URL.

It then generates the following for you:

  • Shownotes
  • Timestamps
  • Newsletter copy
  • Tweets and social media content
  • A blog post
  • Title suggestions
  • Quotes

Honestly, the one I highlighted is better than anything I could ever write. AI copywriting is getting pretty good.

They also have a great blog about podcasting and AI text generation more generally, and they have a thriving Slack community plus great customer support.

3. Riverside FM

Riverside FM is actually my most used podcasting tool.

We use it to record every one of our (virtual) episodes. It’s got better audio and video quality than Zoom or other basic conferencing services.

Their AI podcasting features are also awesome and basically built in. So every episode we record, we press a button and automatically get a transcript and shownotes.

Then, because I’m a LinkedIn junkie, I use the “Magic Clips” feature to automatically cut up a bunch of clips. This then lets me go in and edit the transcripts directly, which edits out “ums” “ahs” and other things.

I go way back with Jasper, using it when it was still called Conversion.AI. My agency also helped grow their blog.

But I use the tool for everything from content research to content production and optimization. I even use it for AI image generation (look at all my blog featured images).

So from recording to editing and production and then repurposing and distribution, Riverside FM is our command center for our podcast.

4. Writer

Writer is another generative AI platform built for editors and content teams.

I used to think of it like a Grammarly on steroids, but they’ve built some impressive features that differentiate them from the AI crowd.

One of those is that you can train the model on your own content and build a brand voice using a repository of content (Jasper only offers a single article or artifact). So you can write and edit in your own voice.

Writer also developed their own large language model, not reliant on OpenAI.

You can also set up brand style guidelines and edit all of your content using these suggestions.

For podcasters, this tool is remarkable. You can upload an audio recording or video recording and it generates a beautiful transcript with timestamps and highlights in only a few clicks.

I also use their free chatbot, ask.writer.com, to generate social media posts. In my opinion, it’s the AI tool that generates the highest quality outputs for these short form posts.

Price: $18 per user/month, and you have to talk to sales to get the brand voice features.

5. Descript

Descript offers a wide range of AI-powered features that makes podcast editing seamless and more efficient.

Using its AI voice synthesis feature, you can swap out unnecessary words and phrases in your audio recordings. Their audio editing is top notch for a noob like me.

It also has an AI-powered transcription feature that allows you to convert your audio into text accurately.

You can also use its voice cloning feature to create a synthetic voice narrator that sounds like you. Descript makes podcasting more accessible and efficient.

The feature I use it for most is simply to cut up video clips and do some lightweight audio editing. I’ll eliminate filler words “likes” and “ums” that I say so I sound awesome and smart on my social media posts. Authentic!

Real deal though, Descript is an amazing product and I love using it.

6. Otter

Otter is an AI tool that allows you to convert your audio file into text quickly.

It is not limited to podcasting and can be used across several industries. We actually used to use it for meeting notes at my agency. Helped a ton because I hate taking notes.

With its AI-powered features, you can edit and correct your transcripts quickly. You can also highlight specific parts of the audio to make your transcripts more interactive.

Good use case for this one is conducting pre-interview chats with guests. This will take notes, summarize them, and you can use them to inform an amazing discussion.

Connects with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc.

7. Auphonic

Auphonic is another AI-powered podcasting tool that can help you automate your podcast editing process.

With its AI-powered algorithms, you can balance the sound levels across your audio files, remove background noise from your podcast recordings, and even add background music.

Auphonic can also help you create transcripts for your podcast with a click of a button.

Look, I’m not an audio engineer. I don’t even edit my own podcasts. But my audio engineer friends told me this is an amazing tool, and I believe them.

Features include an intelligent leveler, noise reduction, filtering and auto EQ, multi track editing, and more.

They also enable video production as well as audiograms to share on social to grow your podcast channels. Not quite a video creation platform, but good medium with the ability to generate captions and chop things up.

I’d liken this to an Otter competitor and potentially a Descript competitor as well.

It’s the main thing people talk about when they say “AI” nowadays. It’s a large language model with a natural conversation interface allowing you to ask it…anything.

Whisper is an automatic speech recognition (ASR) system developed and open-sourced by OpenAI.

How can podcasters use it? It could be used to automatically transcribe podcast episodes, making them more accessible and searchable. It could also be used for translation, allowing podcasters to reach a broader, multilingual audience.

Finally, it could be integrated into editing software to allow for voice-controlled editing.

Last but not least, Cohost AI is a new tool from Buzzsprout that automatically generates episode titles, descriptions, chapter markers, and transcripts.

Buzzsprout in general is a complete podcast hosting platform. The fact that they’ve got an AI tool built into it is amazing. The fewer the tools, the better in my opinion.

They help you publish the podcast, get it listed everywhere, monetize it with ads, and give you analytics and reporting to measure performance.

All in one, baby, and their AI technology is great.

Writesonic is user-friendly and provides users with a range of templates and options to choose from. You can also customize the content according to your preferences.

This is another one of the top AI writing tools, having gone through Y Combinator and built out a really cool platform where users can actually create their own custom chat bots.

They also have an AI image generator and chatbot, making it a complete content creation platform.

They have a few blog post templates, but I like their chat tool and free-form AI writing assistant better. This allows you to create articles or marketing copy in conjunction with AI and gives you a lot more flexibility.

It’s a fantastic AI copywriting tool that can help you fill out your notes with machine generated content, facilitating marketing copy as well as summarizing notes and improving content quality (I like it for producing content like memos).

It does lack the SEO tools that other platforms on this list offer, but it’s got some of the most impressive artificial intelligence tools baked into an otherwise amazing product.

If you’re a Notion user already, you should definitely try their AI content generation.

Grammarly also provides real-time suggestions to improve the overall readability and clarity of your content.

They recently launched GrammarlyGO, a complete AI copywriting tool with generative capabilities.

This is one of the best to complement human writers (none of these replace human writers by the way) because, while it’s not the best at AI generated text, it’s amazing at rewriting things to improve low quality content.

Pretty soon, every tool is going to be an AI tool. It’s such an obvious thing for Grammarly to build an AI writer into the platform.

This is one of my favorite AI writing tools overall, for everything from sales emails to LinkedIn posts to emails to friends.

They have a great free forever plan too.

Best for: custom brand voice and governance

Writer.com is a standout platform that excels in content generation and editing. Its AI content generator, built on custom large language models, is a game-changer.

For editors, Writer.com offers an array of built-in editorial suggestions, including fact claims and grammar recommendations, enhancing the quality and accuracy of the content.

While Writer.com’s AI content generator and editing features are impressive, the platform’s learning curve might be steep for some users. Enterprise features like custom models and training are also expensive.

However, of all the AI content tools on this list, Writer is the one I’m most interested in. They’ve differentiated. They don’t just generate content. They’re a comprehensive platform for content creation and editorial.

I will admit, though, their API is not easy to work with.

Frase AI is the ultimate powerhouse for AI-driven content creation and SEO optimization.

Whether it’s blog articles, social media posts, or website copy, Frase AI’s text generation tool delivers quality content at lightning speed.

I personally mainly use it for its content brief generator. It pulls in a bunch of SEO content from the SERPs, and helps you create an article written with topic and headline suggestions, including blog title and blog content within.

The AI-powered content optimization tool takes it a step further, analyzing existing content and providing recommendations for improved SEO performance

Like GrowthBar, this one really excels at SEO optimized content, but you could feasibly use it for any AI content generation (they have templates for product descriptions, meta descriptions, landing page copy, etc.)

This one is also great for content ideas, as they have keyword research functionality as well as ton of competitive insights.

Their content creation tools allow users to generate high-quality, optimized content by leveraging the power of artificial intelligence. Surfer SEO’s AI writing capability analyzes search intent, identifies relevant keywords, and provides recommendations to create engaging and SEO-friendly content.

They also have a dope feature called Grow Flow that analyzes written content on your site and suggests internal links, fresh ideas for content, and other optimization ideas. If you care at all about ranking in search engines, don’t miss this one.

And of course, it can help you spin up an AI article that’s pretty damn good.

They also have a WordPress plugin you can use to directly upload content to your CMS.

Optimizely got me started on A/B testing.

Back in 2014, I spun up a free account and ran some really bad experiments on my personal website.

Then, I went on to run experiments at CXL, HubSpot, Workato, and several other large clients. I became an absolute nerd for experimentation strategy.

In that time, I’ve used several Optimizely alternatives.

What is Optimizely?

Optimizely is a leading experimentation company that offers the Digital Experience Platform (DXP) software as a service.

The platform is designed to help businesses manage their content lifecycles and test and optimize every customer touchpoint. Millions of experiences are served with the platform, and it is known for its content, commerce, optimization, and personalization capabilities.

The company was founded in 2010 by two former Google employees, Dan Siroker and Pete Koomen. They started out as a simple A/B testing tool; in fact, they marketed themselves on how simple and straightforward it was to run a split test.

Optimizely has since diversified its platform to cover broader digital experiences, including mobile applications, feature flags, and other touchpoints.

Despite its success, Optimizely’s platform is not without its downsides.

One downside is that it can be quite pricey, which limits its accessibility to small and medium-sized businesses. Nowadays, there are many Optimizely alternatives with similar features (some even more feature rich) and much less costly.

VWO is undoubtedly one of the best Optimizely alternatives on the market, with a comprehensive suite of tools that you can use to optimize your website’s conversion rate.

The VWO platform includes A/B testing, website personalization, heat maps, session replays, form analytics, and user behavior analysis.

They’ve really got the whole suite of conversion rate optimization tools, so you could probably replace the need for several tools (HotJar, Fullstory, Qualaroo, Typeform, etc.) if you use VWO. They also offer a direct integration to Google Analytics.

The session recordings are particularly interesting to watch users interact with your website and marketing campaigns.

VWO has an intuitive user interface that makes experimentation easy and fast. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced optimization professional, VWO has everything you need to help you achieve your goals.

Since Google Optimize has sunset, VWO came to the table with a freemium offering to replace Google Optimize.

They do lack some of the power that Optimizely offers, especially around product management use cases like feature flagging. They also only offer Bayesian statistics (which may be a benefit to some), and their personalization capabilities aren’t incredibly strong.

But overall, it’s an awesome A/B testing tool, especially for beginning optimization teams and those on a budget (it’s one of the more affordable Optimizely alternatives).

2. Convert

Convert.com (Convert Experiences) is another excellent Optimizely alternative, one of my favorite experimentation platforms overall, that offers a range of conversion rate optimization tools, including A/B testing, segmentation, personalization, multivariate testing, and multi-page experiments.

One thing I like about Convert is that the founder and the team genuinely care about the conversion rate optimization industry (and the environment). Their customer support is absolutely top notch (their reps help you actually succeed in using their software). They also offer courses (CXL Institute) as well as access to Goodui.org for test ideas.

As for the platform, it’s both strong as well as easy to use for a broad swath of website optimization cases.

They allow for a WYSIWYG visual editor as well as custom coding, and you can easily integrate with Google Analytics or another website analytics tool to both analyze your experiments and campaign performance, as well as trigger personalized digital experiences using analytics dimensions.

This is also one of the most affordable Optimizely alternatives.

3. Adobe Target

Adobe Target is another great Optimizely alternative. They are the prototypical enterprise solution in the experimentation space.

True to their positioning, they really are one of the most powerful platforms in the space (especially when combined with Adobe Analytics). They enable omnichannel experimentation and personalization, AI-powered automation, and all the regular A/B testing and multivariate testing you’d expect from an Optimizely alternative.

This platform is best for large teams with large budgets. It allows for website experimentation, but also for email experimentation and mobile and product optimization

Personally, I haven’t used Adobe Target as much because it is so enterprise and pricey, but if you’re in that tier, it’s probably the most common Optimizely alternative for enterprise companies.

SiteSpect is another great Optimizely alternative, a supremely underrated one in my opinion. They’ve also been around since the early days of conversion rate optimization.

This platform includes A/B testing, multivariate testing, behavioral targeting, and personalization features. They were also one of the first platforms to offer server side testing.

They’re a true Optimizely alternative, offering feature management and rollouts as well as AI-driven product recommendations, and data insights (including real time web analytics to flag potential alerts)

Additionally, SiteSpect offers analytics tools to help you gain insights into user behavior, as well as customer segmentation and reporting features.

5. Mutiny

Mutiny is an Optimizely alternative that enables you to optimize your website’s conversion rate by personalizing the user experience.

At first, they were basically just a personalization platform with a little bit of B2B flair (offering stuff like ABM personalization).

Now, they’ve incorporated artificial intelligence into target recommendations (they joined the generative AI hype) and they just rolled out their own A/B testing functionality.

They’re super focused on B2B, so if you run an e commerce store, you probably don’t want to use this one. But if you’re a B2B company looking to optimize the customer journey, from Google Ads to retention, this is probably the best alternative to Optimizely.

It’s probably best for big companies, but even startups get a lot of utility out of Mutiny.

6. Conductrics

Conductrics is an Optimizely alternative that provides A/B testing, multivariate testing, on page surveys and personalization capabilities.

Conductrics lets you run an A/B test and personalize a segment based on how users behave in the experiment. Unlike other AI-powered personalization tools, they give you complete control and governance over your personalization arms.

They’re one of the most powerful tools in the game, and they have been since the beginning. They were cool before the AI hype, offering reinforcement learning and bandit algorithms to dynamically serve experiences to site visitors.

Of course, they offer straightforward A/B testing to optimize your conversion funnels, just like any experimentation platform would.

Despite all that power, it’s still an easy to use platform even offering a visual editor.

They’ve begun to add different features beyond the ability to run tests, like the ability to send messages with on page surveys to your audience to collect qualitative data.

7. Unbounce

Unbounce, traditionally a landing page builder, is a single platform that allows you to create high-converting landing pages without any coding knowledge.

Because of the simplicity in creating landing pages, it’s great for testing new ideas and conversion funnels. The design elements it gives you out of the box are great, allowing even a terrible designer like me to create pretty looking pages.

The platform includes a wide range of pre-designed templates, making it easy to get started, along with an A/B testing feature that lets you test different landing pages to see which one works best (showing you statistical significance levels in the analytics dashboard).

Additionally, Unbounce offers a suite of website optimization, including popups and sticky bars to help you improve your website’s conversion rate. They also offer multi page testing and customer journey funnels.

They’ve added a bunch of AI copywriting features as well, helping you write copy targeting your ICP (ideal customer profile) and even creating a full landing page just by using a URL and headline.

As an Optimizely alternative, it’s not the most powerful. It lacks additional features like full stack experimentation and testing on mobile apps. It’s best for small businesses and customers who want to scale out paid acquisition campaigns with additional landing pages.

8. Crazy Egg

Crazy Egg is a web-based analytics and optimization tool that promises to help businesses boost their website’s performance.

It provides heat maps, A/B testing, scroll maps, and other tracking tools that marketers can use to understand how users interact with their websites.

I’m actually not a Crazy Egg fan. I only put it on this list so it is more comprehensive and has an attempt at ranking in search. That’s the game, unfortunately.

Maybe if it were 2015 I’d be a bigger fan, but today, Crazy Egg is pretty weak as an Optimizely alternative.

The tool itself is quite difficult to navigate and clunky to use compared to other user analytics and behavioral analytics tools, making it less user friendly than some of its competitors. HotJar is incredibly easy to set up in comparison

Some of its features such as the click analytics don’t provide detailed enough insights due to low resolution images used in reporting. The level of detail in their reports lacks AI-assisted tools like Fullstory and Microsoft Clarity.

Finally, the customer service experience isn’t great either; users have reported long wait times when trying to get support help.

As an A/B testing tool, it’s one of the weakest on this list. It doesn’t really even compare to Optimizely.

However, it does have A/B testing functionality. And it’s relatively cheap compared to other tools. So if you have to use Crazy Egg, you’ll probably still get some value out of it.

Their blog is also basically just an affiliate engine at this point. Looks like they stopped doing feature releases years ago. Ugh.

9. AB Tasty

Along with their A/B testing tool, they also offer recommendation engines and intelligent search functionalities.

Additionally, AB Tasty offers feature management, experimentation, and personalization solutions to help businesses launch better products faster and drive more sales. By combining all these features, AB Tasty offers a comprehensive web optimization platform for product managers and marketers alike.

Like any software, AB Tasty does have some downsides.

One user reported that the analytics reporting feature can be confusing and overwhelming, making it difficult to get an accurate view of website performance. However, you can easily integrate with Google products like Tag Manager and GA4.

Overall, AB Tasty is a powerful and effective tool to help businesses optimize their digital experiences, and it’s certainly one to consider if you’re looking to improve your website and drive better results.

Conclusion

Look, Optimizely is great, but it has its downsides. It’s quite expensive when you compare it to the myriad options in the market nowadays.

I’m a huge fan of VWO and Convert Experiences as well as Sitespect for a one-to-one best Optimizely alternative.

For something better at personalization and even stronger features, Conductrics and Mutiny are excellent. Dynamic Yield is another one in this category.

And for those on a budget, Crazy Egg or Unbounce might get the job done.

Both are incredibly popular AI text generators with varying sets of features.

However, the promise of both of these tools is amazing, but each of them falls short in the present on several dimensions.

What is Jasper?

Jasper AI is a generative AI platform with several tools for creators, including an AI image generator, 40+ ready-made templates, Boss Mode AI writing assistant, custom recipes, commands, Jasper Chat, and an API.

It’s stacked.

I personally use Jasper for quite a bit of my AI content production. For example, I usually start a blog post with their “One Shot Blog Post” template.

The output is usually not great, but it gives me a starting point from which to angle my own writing.

Then, I use commands and their Surfer SEO integration to create guardrails and have Jasper co-write with me.

I’d wager that it speeds up my time to write an average blog post by about 2-5X. Usually, a blog post will take me 10-20 hours. Writing with Jasper, I get it done in 1-5 hours, depending on the complexity of the topic.

Of course, Jasper has use cases beyond blogging. Its AI art generator is used to create custom images based on your prompts (much like Midjourney or Dall-E).

Their chat feature (much like ChatGPT) spits out pretty much anything, depending on the creativity of your inputs.

I sometimes use it for research. For example, I can ask it to summarize its own features for me (because it includes real time Google search results):

Jasper was principally built on top of OpenAI’s technology, but they’ve since expanded to building out their own models as well as testing several different NLP (natural language processing) models.

Anyway, the tool is solid. One of my favorite AI copywriting products.

What is Writer?

Writer (writer.com) is a complete platform for brand, content, and writing teams. It is built on top of proprietary artificial intelligence models, but it’s so much more than a generative AI tool.

In fact, Writer has been working on their platform since 2020. I look at them as sort of a Grammarly on steroids, complete with style guide, terms, and snippets to keep everyone on expansive teams speaking in the same brand-approved voice.

Here’s something unique: they’ve built their own foundational and application layer large language models (LLMs). A couple facts about their LLM, Palmyra:

  • These are the only models trained with business writing and marketing data as their focus.
  • With Writer’s API, companies can build generative AI into their own products. They can fine tune the model with their own data, brand, and style guidelines.
  • Privacy and security features are baked in.

The AI world is moving so fast, it’s hard to keep up, but these models should help solve some of the core problems generative AI has faced in actually being useful:

  • Generic content
  • Error filled, inaccurate outputs.
  • Lack of multi-modal inputs (ingesting text, audio, video, URLs)
  • Brand integrity across users and teams
  • Compliance with security and privacy standards.

So the promise of Writer is huge. As I’ll explain later, a lot of this is just that…promise.

Still, I use Writer for tons of stuff, mostly in operationalizing AI for larger clients and organizations.

Jasper vs Writer Similarities and Differences

Despite both being AI content tools, Jasper and Writer are actually quite different. They target different audiences, have different underlying models, and the user interface of many of their tools differ.

However, they do have a few similarities worth noting

Here are the key similarities:

  • Jasper and Writer both offer conversational AI chatbots. They differ in the inputs allowed as well as the models they’re built on. But both offer conversational interfaces to interact with the AI models.
  • Jasper and Writer both offer blog builders, though quite different in how they’re constructed. Writer’s is much more structured, with tons of tools for editors to work alongside the AI text generator. Jasper’s is more open-ended.

Finally, they both offer APIs and a Google Chrome Extension, effectively allowing you to leverage their technology anywhere on the web or within your own products.

Both are powerful examples of an AI writing tool that can help create high quality content for product descriptions, digital ad copy, website copy, short form content, long form copy for blog content, social media, and much more. They both have an easy to use interface as well.

How are Jasper and Writer Different?

There are SO many things that differentiate Jasper from Writer.

The core difference is the underlying LLMs by which they operate, but they also differ structurally in how you can use the tools.

Writer is much more focused on large teams, editorial and brand efforts, and writers. Jasper is a broader utility AI platform with templates for sales outreach, story creation, advertising, and many more. It’s much more open-ended, allowing the user to dictate how it is being used. Writer has more built-in guardrails. Each of these has pros and cons.

Jasper AI is powerful beast, customizable and versatile, allowing you to write just about any type of content you can imagine using its templates, recipes, and open-form Boss Mode assistant.

And let’s not forget about the chatbot — a futuristic addition to the writer’s arsenal to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The difference with Jasper? It pulls in data from Google searches (a game changer for research).

Jasper can be a bit finicky and a bit confusing, with outputs that can be inaccurate and generic, lacking the human touch that separates the great content from the mundane. And while the tool is relatively affordable, it’s still a far cry from free options like ChatGPT.

Businesses hoping to maintain a consistent brand voice may find Jasper lacking in editorial features like approved terms and snippets or brand style guides. And if you’re hoping to train the model on your own data, well, you’re out of luck unless you’re on the business package plan and use their API.

Still, there are so many features that make Jasper a top AI writing tool. It integrates with Surfer SEO, helping you optimize your content for search engines (including SEO features like suggestions for word count and relevant keywords), and even has an AI art tool for adding some visual flair to your writing.

It’s user-friendly and customizable, making it a great choice for those looking to scale their content production.

All in, I’d say Jasper also has more useful templates as well. For example, they’ve got landing page generator options, an instant article writer (one-shot blog post), social media copy, google ads, and tons of copywriting templates for all purposes.

Lots of the best features are unavailable on the starter plan, though, so I’d recommend bumping up to Boss Mode.

Writer is one of the best AI writing tools, thanks in large part to its own LLMs (that’s “large language models” for the uninitiated). It’s a standout feature that sets Writer apart from the rest of the pack.

But that’s not all.

Unlike Jasper, Writer.com is also armed with a whole host of editorial tools, like Grammarly on steroids. And if you’re worried about maintaining your brand’s voice and style guidelines, Writer’s snippets and terms tool has got you covered. Note: Jasper does have a sick integration with Grammarly to help you accomplish this stuff.

What’s more, you can train Writer using your own data and voice, making it less generic than some of its competitors. Sure, the outputs can still be lacking at times, but the editor is equipped with suggestions to help clean up your copywriting and make it more clear and readable.

And let’s not forget about the multi-modal inputs — video, text, audio — that Writer allows. It’s a versatile tool that can help you repurpose content across a variety of mediums.

But perhaps the most impressive thing about Writer.com is its affordability.

At just $18 per user per month, it’s a steal compared to some of the other writing tools out there. And if you’re looking to build on top of the platform or train the model using your own content and data, Writer gives you API access to do just that.

Jasper vs Writer Use Cases & Who It’s Best For

Jasper is one of the most popular AI copywriting tools out there, and it’s great for general purpose usage.

I’ve found it to be particularly strong for content creation at scale.

It helps me ideate blog topics, start my first draft and beat writers block, and optimize the post with Surfer as I go.

I also sometimes use it to write social media posts for me, but I’m just as often going to ChatGPT for that nowadays.

So I’d say Jasper is best for the scrappy content writer wanting to get a leg up, copywriters, bloggers, and small teams creating content at high velocity. Sales teams can also get use out of it, especially with the Chrome extension.

As for Writer, it’s sweet spot is in larger brand teams, including editorial, content marketing, SEO, and product marketing.

Because of its proprietary algorithms and brand style guide artifacts, it’s a bit more structured in its outputs. This comes with the downside of it being a bit harder to use, but if your team needs to create cohesive content, this is a huge advantage. This also lets you craft your copy and create content with a keen focus on your target audience.

Again, the Chrome extension broadens its team use cases.

Really, either way, you’re going to save time and beat writers block with either of these tool. Both offer excellent communities (Jasper’s is insane) and chat support if you run into problems. They both have a free plan you can try out, so just go write articles and see which you like best.

Conclusion

Personally, I love and use both Jasper and Writer.

I use Jasper for most of my blog post workflows, from ideation to optimization. I use Writer to research and repurpose long form content and podcasts into social media posts.

Both are popular AI writing tools with strong promises, and both still fall short in several key areas.

But just jump in and kick the tires. The only way to learn is to play around with them, and again, both have a free plan you can use.

Like Google Analytics, they offered a limited free tier with an intuitive user interface. And people ate it up.

Now, Google Optimize (as well as Google Optimize 360) will no longer be available as of September 30, 2023. Sorry, folks, we’ve got to look for a Google Optimize alternative.

Look, even if Google Optimize wasn’t going away, it had severe limitations. Now is a good time to replace Google Optimize with a much stronger option.

What is Google Optimize?

Google Optimize is (was) a free tool from Google that allows you to create and run A/B tests on your website.

Google Optimize has been incredibly popular, racking up easily the largest user base of any experimentation platform. I even used it briefly at HubSpot as well as at Workato when I ran experimentation there.

However, even before it was deprecated, it had severe limitations.

These limitations didn’t stop large companies (public companies that are revered for their growth teams!) from using this limited, free product, though. Some of its limitations included:

  • It was horrible when it came to writing custom javascript.
  • The flicker effect was always an issue.
  • You were capped at 5 experiments per container on the free plan.
  • You could only have 3 goals at a time
  • You could only test websites, not apps
  • Tests could run for 35 days maximum

Additionally, it had several limitations with the personalization product, essentially being limited to Google Analytics dimensions and events (unless you invest a ton in custom setups).

The statistics engine was a black box, and used a weird (and opaque) mixture of users and sessions to calculate the statistics.

On the plus side, it was incredibly easy to use for beginners. It also integrated natively with Google Ads, Google Analytics, and other Google products. And of course, it was free!

Convert perfectly balances power with simplicity.

I’ve trained teams on using this platform, and it’s always been relatively easy to teach people how to use the platform. The Convert team also has amazing customer success employees to help you implement and get the most use out of the platform.

While they don’t have a free plan, they are one of the most affordable Google Optimize alternatives, starting at $99 per month (for 50,000 uniques).

VWO (Visual Website Optimizer) is another popular A/B testing tool, as well as a comprehensive all-in-one tool kit for conversion rate optimization.

VWO has been around since the early days and is one of the biggest names in conversion optimization. I remember using them and Optimizely when I first got started in the space.

They’ve got it all – heat maps, session replays, form analytics, customer surveys, on-site surveys, A/B testing, multivariate testing, personalization, mobile apps, and more.

Fun fact: they have a free tier now that includes:

  • A/B Testing
  • Split URL Testing
  • Mobile Website Testing
  • Unlimited Concurrent Experiments

This makes VWO Testing an extremely appealing Google Optimize alternative.

I believe VWO only uses Bayesian statistics, which may or may not be a downside for you.

Optimizely is probably the biggest name in experimentation.

They were the first tool I ever used, back when they offered a free plan and were a relatively simple platform.

It’s been a long time since those days. They’ve since been acquired and have built a comprehensive digital experience management platform.

This platform now includes a content marketing platform, digital asset management, feature flags (and a feature management platform), product and web experimentation, advanced personalization, recommendation engines, and experimentation program management.

I used to recommend Optimizely all the time, but nowadays, it seems to have lost its luster. The platform is incredibly expensive without much feature differentiation. It’s still a great product, but I feel like many other platforms now offer the same or better tools, at a lower price point.

Still, Optimizely web experimentation taught us all how to run experiments in the early days and is clearly one of the strongest Google Optimize competitors.

4. AB Tasty

AB Tasty is a powerful A/B testing platform and Google Optimize alternative that has over 1,000 brands using the platform.

Like Optimizely, they also offer client-side as well as server-side experimentation, as well as product recommendation engines, personalization, and feature flags.

All in, it’s a much more powerful platform than Google Optimize ever was. Of course, you can do all the normal stuff like multi page tests, run multiple experiments simultaneously, and build personalized customer experiences.

Like others on this list, they integrate directly with Google Analytics as well as Adobe Analytics, Heap, Amplitude, and Segment.

Solid split testing tool.

5. Kameleoon

Kameleoon is a Google Optimize alternative that provides A/B testing and personalization solutions for websites.

It offers a range of features, including advanced segmentation, AI powered automation for personalization, and real-time analytics.

Kameleoon’s core differentiators include its ability to create personalized experiences for users based on their behavior and preferences, as well as its intuitive user interface.

Like other A/B testing tools on this list, it also includes full stack experimentation (server-side testing and feature flags).

My favorite part of Kameleoon is the ability to create a personalized customer experience based on real time visitor behavior and user behavior.

6. StatSig

StatSig is a newer tool on the market and a lesser known Google Optimize alternative.

They’re a growth platform with advanced features like warehouse-native analytics, holdouts, dynamic configs, and metrics.

They also include all the Google Optimize alternative features you’d expect like experimentation (including multivariate experiments), personalization (AI powered personalization platform using bandit algorithms), and feature management.

This tool is probably not for beginner CROs, but for well-resourced and sophisticated product and web teams with technical knowledge.

7. FigPii

FigPii is also a newer tool that I’ve only recently heard of. But I’m impressed, especially given the price point compared to other Google Optimize alternatives listed here.

They’re a multi-faceted conversion optimization platform with heat maps, session recordings, A/B testing, and polls.

They start out for free up to 75,000 visitors per month. Pretty wild! The next pricing tier begins at $99/month, making it one of the most affordable platforms out there.

It’s definitely not as powerful as others on this list, but the learning curve is super light. Very few advanced features to speak of, but it will get your basic A/B testing and customer engagement and research done.

Includes a visual editor as well as code editor for more complex tests.

Set it up with Google Tag Manager and integrate with your analytics stack.

Price: Free for 75k visitors a month (only includes testing, not other features) and then $99.99 /month for the full feature set (but capped at 30k visitors a month)

8. Crazy Egg

Crazy Egg is largely a legacy brand name from the early 2010s that is a suboptimal solution for A/B testing as well as heat maps and session recordings.

When it launched, it was great. It was novel. There were only a few of its kind in the market.

Now, there are dozens of more powerful tools and several that beat its price points.

If I’m being completely honest, I wouldn’t use Crazy Egg as a replacement for Google Optimize. It will function just fine; but there are better solutions on this list.

However, if you’re intent on using Crazy Egg, here’s what you need to know:

They’re an “all-in-one” optimization platform with heat maps (their initial tool), session replay videos, lightweight behavioral analytics, surveys, and A/B testing.

9. Conductrics

Conductrics might be my personal favorite experimentation platform, but it’s not for everyone.

With the full set of basic features like A/B tests, multivariate tests, and the like, they also have dynamic personalization that runs on reinforcement learning. This essentially suggests segments of your target audience to run personalization marketing campaigns in real time.

Conductrics probably has the most advanced features of any platform I know. They were the first and best to do AI powered automation.

For a Google Optimize alternative, it might be overkill. But if you want an experience optimization platform that can do pretty much anything, this is it. Beautiful tool, great founders and awesome team. Big fan.

10. Adobe Target

Adobe Target is the O.G. enterprise experimentation and digital experience platform.

Part of the Adobe Marketing Cloud (Adobe Experience Cloud), it’s part of a complete set of tools to manage all of your marketing campaigns and digital activities. This includes Adobe Analytics, one of the most powerful analytics tools.

What can I say? This is one of the biggest names in web experimentation and has always been the big competitor to Optimizely web experimentation.

It’s definitely one of the top Google Optimize alternatives, but I will say, it might be overkill (especially for those on the free tier).

Still, it’s a great platform and remains one of the top names in the space today.

11. SiteSpect

SiteSpect is an underrated and amazing experimentation platform.

They were one of the first to build out a server-side testing service as well as many of the advanced features that are commonly used today to boost conversions.

SiteSpect enables uses to run multiple tests (including A/B, multivariate, redirect tests, same page, multiple web pages, etc.), do web personalization, improve website performance, and do product recommendations.

It’s a full suite of tools to boost that conversion rate (and integrates with the analytics platform of your choice).

Conclusion

Many will be affected by the decision to sunset Google Optimize, but fret not – tons of other tools out there.

There are a few other tools I didn’t mention, like Dynamic Yield, that are fantastic web personalization platforms. Others are more focused on landing pages, like Unbounce, Instapage, and Elementor.

Also, A/B testing has been built into so many marketing products today, like OptinMonster, HubSpot, etc. But it’s not the core feature, so I didn’t include it.

Overall, my favorite top Google Optimize alternatives are Convert and VWO.

These two tools offer the most comprehensive set of features at the best price. They’re easy to use. They’re powerful platforms.

My podcast editor had always been hassling me about the recording quality of Zoom calls, and even local records on Quicktime. No longer a problem with Riverside.

The other thing is, it’s built for podcasters. It’s not a generic recording software like other apps. So it’s got a ton of features that help you promote the podcast as well, such as easy publishing to multiple platforms and the ability to mark and cut clips in real time.

You can use it on both desktop and mobile, and it features multi-track editing for up to 8 people, real-time sound effects, automatic mixing, and even built-in analytics to help you understand your audience better.

It actually makes for decent webinar software as well, if that’s your thing.

On the podcast creation side, you’ve got all the basic stuff (multi-track editing, unlimited storage space, one-click publishing to popular platforms like iTunes and YouTube, and real-time analytics).

It also has a standalone podcast player that you can use to embed on your website.

On the monetization side, there are a few creative features and services. One of them is a podcast ad network that allows you to find podcast sponsors, one of the most common podcast monetization methods.

They also have a premium podcast feature that allows for in-app purchases, so you can finally convert podcast listeners to actual customers. Finally, they have a patrons feature that allows superfans to pay for premium content and bonuses.

4. Spreaker

Spreaker, owned by iHeart (the media juggernaut) is a powerful podcast recording and hosting platform that offers the most powerful podcast advertising and monetization platform I know of.

While other podcast recording apps focus on the production and recording, this one’s primary value proposition is on growth (truly one of the most difficult parts of running a podcast).

Their podcast distribution features allow you to sync with all major podcast platforms (Apple podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio, etc.) in one click.

The podcast monetization feature allows you to find and secure sponsor slots for your podcast.

Their podcast recording app is minimalist, but it provides the basic infrastructure to get your podcast recorded. You still may want to invest in some podcast editing software in addition to using Spreaker to distribute and grow your podcast.

Price: the basic podcast recording features are free for unlimited episodes, but to get advanced podcast analytics and other features, it starts at $10/mo

5. Audacity

Audacity is an open-source, multi-track audio editor that offers a wide range of features, including editing audio clips, recording audio from multiple sources, adding effects such as noise reduction, and more.

It also supports a variety of formats including WAV, MP3 and OGG. It basically supports all audio files, making it one of the best audio editing software solutions out there (and it’s free!).

I will say, the user interface is a little complicated. Basically, you should probably be somewhat of an audio engineering nerd to use this one. I think you’ll get up to speed quickly, but if you don’t want to spend a ton of time learning a new interface, this one might not be for you.

However, because of the complexity, it’s also more powerful and customizable than other recording and editing software.

Another downside is that it doesn’t have any built-in collaboration tools so if you’re looking for something specifically for remote recordings or collaborations with other podcasters this might not be the best choice for you.

6. Reaper

Reaper is a powerful digital audio workstation (DAW) that allows users to record audio tracks as well as edit them in real time. It has a wide range of features including support for VST plugins, unlimited track counts and support for third-party control surfaces such as MIDI controllers or keyboards.

Reaper is another tool I consider most useful for hardcord audio nerds. To be honest, it’s not for me. I just want to talk into a mic and have people listen to me.

It’s great for both solo podcasters and collaborative teams since it includes powerful collaboration tools such as a central server system for sharing projects across different computers or devices.

However, it’s important to note that Reaper isn’t free; while it does offer a 60-day trial period with full functionality, after that time period has expired users will need to purchase a license in order to continue using it.

Price: $60 for discounted license, $200 for commercial

7. GarageBand

Ahhh GarageBand. I remember the first time I got a Macbook and would play around endlessly, making stupid little songs with GarageBand.

GarageBand is Apple’s popular music production program designed specifically with musicians in mind. The app offers a wide range of features including virtual instruments, sound effects and mixing tools which makes it perfect for podcasting purposes too.

Personally, I find the interface intuitive when it comes to audio editing software. For audio recording software, it’s probably not ideal, as it’s desktop based (which limits virtual interviews and podcast recordings). The audio quality is also, in my opinion, not the best.

Unfortunately GarageBand only works on Mac but there are some similar programs available for Windows users such as FL Studio or Cakewalk Sonar X3 Producer Edition if you’re looking for something comparable on PC platforms instead.

Still, it’s a free audio editor that is easy to use.

8. Zoom

I’m going to be honest, and it might make me sound prosaic: Zoom is my ideal podcast audio recording software.

It’s not the best at anything; it’s just the easiest.

The audio quality is poor. There are no editing features.

But you can literally just hop onto a normal Zoom call, click record, and have workable video and audio files.

Zoom is a popular video conferencing software that many podcasters use to record remote interviews or collaborate with other podcast producers even if they are in different locations.

It includes features like screen sharing, group chat and one-click recording so you can easily capture all of your conversations for later editing.

Which, I should note: you’ll need separate podcast production software with editing capabilities. And your podcast editor will yell at you because Zoom doesn’t produce high quality audio recordings.

But I still like it.

Price: Free with time limitations. $15.99/month/user for the upgrades.

9. Quicktime

QuickTime is a free, easy-to-use audio and video player for Mac computers.

I consider it the default backup option for recording podcasts virtually.

While it doesn’t have as many features as other podcast recording software mentioned above, its basic audio editing tools are still quite useful for podcasters who don’t want to spend lots of time in the studio perfecting their recordings.

It also includes an audio effect feature which is great for adding a bit of flavor to your podcast recordings and allowing you to experiment with different sounds.

This isn’t the best recording software, but it’s free and it’s a good supplement to another platform you choose.

Pro tip: always ask your guest to record locally with QuickTime. This gives you a backup audio file in case your regular podcast software fails. 10. Anchor FM

Anchor is one of several tools launched by Spotify for Podcasters.

Bear with me here, because it’s an evolving and changing set of tools.

The stated goal of Spotify is to offer a free all-in-one suite of tools for podcasters.

Anchor FM, previously a standalone free podcasting recording software, is now a part of that suite.

First, let’s talk about Anchor FM.

This is a free podcast recording and editing platform that was historically mobile only. You can record live audio and easily publish it to Spotify and other platforms.

It lacks many of the advanced features of other recording studio setups listed above, namely around audio mixing and the editing process.

Now, Spotify’s free podcast tools include many engagement and monetization features, like the ability to poll your audience, drive Q&As, add video podcasts and video recording clips, and dig into advanced analytics to see how listeners are engaging with episodes.

They also announced a partnership with Patreon to help podcasters monetize their followings.

11. Alitu

Alitu is an easy to use online podcasting platform that’s designed to take the hassle out of audio editing and production.

Their value prop is literally “try podcasting on easy mode.” Definitely speaks to a noob like me who has no idea how to mix audio or produce high quality podcasts.

It includes a range of useful features such as automated levels, lossless audio, noise removal, music beds and intros to help make your podcasts sound professional without having to do any manual work.

Plus it comes with built-in hosting and analytics tracking so you can easily monitor your podcast’s performance.

Alitu is perfect for podcasters on a budget who want an easy way to record, edit and publish their podcasts without spending hours in the studio.

Their tool is also all-in-one, so you don’t need to patch together a stack of podcast hosting platforms, podcast editing software, and good podcast recording software. It also includes transcripts and has editing tools for video podcasts as well.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, you’ve gotta pick the podcast recording software that works for you.

For me, I’m a simple man with simple taste. I love Riverside, and honestly, I even love just recording podcasts on Zoom (plus Quicktime for local recording). Though I do send that off to my editor who uses editing software with advanced features to mix audio and clean it up ((e.g. Adobe Audition).

If you’re more of an audio nerd yourself, perhaps you want a full multitrack recording studio to record live audio and video + a separate tool for editing software + a separate tool for podcast hosting, distribution, and monetization.

Personally, I’d go with a simpler setup first. See if that works, and then upgrade. Great simple tools include Podbean, Riverside, and Spreaker. That should get the job done for 90% of podcasters.

You don’t need Google Trends to tell you that ChatGPT is the talk of the town.

Fine, if you insist, here’s the Google Trends chart:

Doesn’t do it justice, though – generative AI is transforming everything, especially marketing.

I’ve written a lot about AI text generators, AI image generators, and AI marketing tools in general.

But I wanted to break down two of the most popular, and frankly, two of my favorite, tools in the space: chatGPT and Jasper AI.

This piece will cover both AI tools comprehensively, drawing on a feature comparison, covering the best use cases and users for each tool, and of course covering some pros and cons of Jasper AI and ChatGPT.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a conversational AI chatbot built by OpenAI.

The interface is extremely simple: it’s just a chat style interface with an open field for user input.

You can enter anything in natural conversation and generate a response.

For example, you could create a list of creative ideas for social media posts for your brand:

Or you could, for instance, generate code snippets or Google Sheets formulas:

The chat style interface is fun to use, but it also presents challenges, as the response you generate is entirely dependent on the prompt you use (and there are no templates or guardrails).

Under the hood, ChatGPT is a natural language processing tool that has ingested a massive amount of content published on the open internet (but only prior to the year 2021). It’s technically using GPT-3.5, an artificial intelligence model built by OpenAI.

Rumor has it that GPT-4 will launch soon and be leagues more powerful than the existing version. But we’ll see.

What is Jasper AI?

Jasper, ah yes, my beloved Jasper AI.

Jasper has gone through three brand name changes. They started out at Conversion AI, then moved to Jarvis AI (which Marvel didn’t like), and now they’re the well-known and extremely successful Jasper AI.

The team recently raised $125M at a $1.5B valuation.

What do they do? They’re THE AI content platform for businesses.

While they started out as a simple AI text generator, unlike ChatGPT alternative tools in the space, they’ve built a formidable set of AI tools as well as their own models for many of the tools.

For instance, the biggest similarity with ChatGPT is their Jasper Chat feature. It’s also a natural language processing tool with a chat style interface:

However, they have tons of neat features on top of this, such as including search results (so the responses aren’t constrained by limited knowledge up to 2021) and direct user feedback to improve the models over time.

They also have image generation tools, tons of copywriting and marketing templates to create engaging copy, and now, a ton of business features such as team partitioning and brand voice artifacts.

While both ChatGPT and Jasper AI have amazing use cases for content creation and process improvement, they both serve different roles and utilities, which I’ll cover in detail below.

ChatGPT vs Jasper AI Overview

If you’re looking for an AI chatbot to assist you with tasks like writing copy, website content, and essays, two of the most popular tools in the space are ChatGPT and Jasper Chat.

Both are interactive chatbots that use natural language processing to respond conversationally to your queries. However, there are some key differences between the two. Here’s a high level overview in a beautiful comparison table format:

Now, a high level chart can’t really give you the granular details to answer the question, “should I use ChatGPT vs Jasper AI?’

(Maybe you should ask one of the tools that question!)

Honestly, it really depends on your use case. Next I’ll walk through my personal experiences using each of these AI writing virtual assistants and give some honest takes on differences, similarities, pros, and cons.

ChatGPT vs Jasper Differences and Similarities

This section will dive into both the similarities of ChatGPT as well as the differences (which I’ll split out by both pros and cons of each AI tool).

How are ChatGPT and Jasper AI Similar?

Jasper AI and ChatGPT are both natural language processing (NLP) technologies that utilize OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 language models to generate human-like text. The AI model, in many ways, is largely the same.

They are both powerful conversational AI platforms that offer unique features and capabilities.

Both Jasper AI and ChatGPT save their history of outputs, and they use the same large language model GPT 3.5, which was trained using reinforcement Learning from human feedback (RLHF).

I should note: Jasper is a comprehensive AI content platform with templates, recipes, free form content editors, Chrome extensions and more. They have an AI chatbot called Jasper Chat, and for the most part, that’s what I’m comparing to ChatGPT.

ChatGPT is just one tool, a conversational AI tool, built and launched by OpenAI.

What Are The Biggest Differences Between ChatGPT and Jasper AI?

Now, here’s the meat of the ChatGPT vs Jasper AI comparison: the differences.

I’ll walk through each tool, one at a time, and outline their key feature differences as well as pros and cons to each platform.

Jasper AI pros and cons

Jasper AI, first off, is a comprehensive generative AI platform that allows you to create content for a variety of purposes, from a long form blog post to repurposed content for social media platforms and much more.

They also have Jasper Art, which is a powerful AI image generator.

Finally, they have multiple ways of interacting with the AI writing tool outside of the human like conversations in their chat tool. Some of these include:

  • Jasper’s Boss Mode editor, which is like an AI writing assistant
  • Jasper’s Chrome extension, which allows you to create content anywhere, including directly on social media platforms and Google Docs.
  • Templates
  • Recipes
  • Jasper Chat

All of that is to say Jasper Chat is merely one way to interact with the underlying AI models.

Jasper Chat is an AI chatbot designed for content creators that offers a range of features to help with content creation.

While both Jasper Chat and ChatGPT are conversational AI tools, there are some features that set them apart.

Here are some of the key features that Jasper Chat has that ChatGPT does not:

  • Expansive knowledge on niche and advanced topics as recent as Summer 2021, but also including the ability to include today’s search results into the responses
  • Access to over 50 copywriting templates.
  • Generate content in 29 languages.
  • Access to a free browser extension
  • Unique voice and tone responses for the conversational chatbot
  • Saved responses and usage history
  • Ability to plug responses into the Google Docs like editor.

Like ChatGPT, Jasper Chat also has a familiar design that’s accessible for users, making it easy to use and navigate. Additionally, Jasper Chat is built and fine-tuned for business use cases, such as marketing and sales departments, continuing to make writing faster and more efficient.

Overall, if you’re looking for an AI chatbot that offers a wide range of features specifically designed for content creation and business use cases, Jasper Chat may be the right choice for you. Jasper AI’s art features are also available in the chat interface.

You’ll have to take Jasper’s word for it:

The biggest cons to Jasper AI’s platform include price and the inability to write code or technical information.

ChatGPT is honestly amazing at giving you code snippets, Excel and Sheets formulas, regex formulas, and anything technical

Jasper obviously has more features when you compare ChatGPT to it, but this is a huge use case for me, so I’m still using ChatGPT for a ton of this stuff.

And while ChatGPT is experimenting with paid service, to use Jasper you have to get the paid version. The boss mode plan includes almost everything (except Jasper Art), but the real value comes with the Business Plan, where you get unlimited access to all of the text generation tools as well as cool partitioning and brand voice features.

Still, Jasper is certainly pricier than ChatGPT (which is still functional with the free version).

ChatGPT pros and cons

ChatGPT, a chatbot developed by OpenAI, has been making headlines for its impressive language abilities.

I already mentioned the biggest benefits: it’s free and it is AMAZING at technical outputs like code and Google Sheets formulas.

It’s also gotten a bit better at style, though the responses are still in quite generic language.

However, it is not without its downsides. Here are some of the biggest cons of using ChatGPT:

1. Lack of Context Awareness

One of the biggest challenges of using ChatGPT is that it lacks context awareness. This means that the chatbot may provide irrelevant or inaccurate responses to certain questions or prompts.

However, that’s on you (the user) to provide ChatGPT with better prompts.

This is going to be the case with ANY AI writing tool, including Jasper.

Though at least Jasper and other text generation tools often have templates to help guide your prompts.

2. Capacity Issues

ChatGPT’s capacity to handle large volumes of requests is limited, which can result in slow response times or system crashes.

This is the single most annoying things about ChatGPT to me.

3. Plagiarism and Cheating

As ChatGPT can generate text quickly and easily, there is a risk that students (or content marketers) may use it for plagiarism or cheating purposes.

Personally, I also find it annoying that guest post writers are just using generic language from ChatGPT to pitch me articles.

I don’t care if AI is used, but it’s often obvious and the content is trash.

AI should be used as a tool to help us perform better, not generate trash content at hyperscale.

SEO optimized content has always suffered from this problem, but it’s getting every worse with free ChatGPT access.

4. Lack of Personalization

While ChatGPT can hold a conversation and provide information, it lacks the ability to provide personalized feedback or have a genuine human connection with users. It doesn’t have brand or style guide inputs that can be saved, though you can try to engineer a prompt.

Writer and Jasper are much better at incorporating this personal style or brand style in the content creation.

ChatGPT vs Jasper AI Use Cases & Who It’s Best For

Artificial intelligence is only going to continue to improve, and that goes for the AI chatbots available as well.

I can only give you my personal opinion here, but at this current moment, here are the best use cases for each platform.

ChatGPT use cases:

  • Code snippets, spreadsheet formulas and technical outputs
  • Generate human like responses to basic queries (like “what is creatine?”)
  • Getting ideas for high quality content (it’s just a good starting point)
  • Analyzing and tagging qualitative data
  • Speeding up research

Who ChatGPT is best for: varied use cases for everyday businesses and the business owner with too much on their plates, students looking to improve existing content and essays, technical employees looking to get help with code snippets and formulas.

Jasper Chat use cases:

  • Creating and optimizing engaging content – blog post, social media, and more
  • Repurposing existing content into social media
  • Generating fresh ideas to bust through writer’s block
  • Generating creative content like video script outline and podcast script outline
  • Getting up to date research on topics and outlines.

Who Jasper is best for: businesses and teams creating large amounts of content and art. It’s one of the most powerful content platforms out there, and the business plans include Jasper Chat and so much more. Jasper Chat is a core part of my content workflow at this point.

Conclusion

So which one should you choose? It ultimately depends on your specific needs and preferences.

If you’re looking for a powerful language model with a vast knowledge base and don’t mind thinking in commands or strict syntax, then ChatGPT may be the better option for you.

However, if you want quick generative text without any waitlist and prefer a more conversational approach to interaction, then Jasper Chat may be the way to go.
